Speakers

Aaron S. Kurdyla
Director of Operations, Grounds Maintenance Division
High Tech Landscapes, Inc.

Aaron S. Kurdyla is a graduate of Rutgers The State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a licensed commercial pesticide applicator. He brings over thirteen years of both residential and commercial landscape experience. Aaron has gained valuable industry experience by working with both small and national landscape providers earlier in his career. Currently in his fifth year with High Tech Landscape, Inc., he has been an integral part of developing new clients and growing the companies’ ever expanding commercial client base. Aaron now oversees three branch offices located in the state of NJ and also coordinates the irrigation and chemical programs for those clients. Client relationships and communication has been a trademark of both High Tech Landscapes, Inc and Aaron’s success. Aaron currently lives in Bridgewater, NJ with his wife and three children.


Patrick J. DuChene
Landscape Designer
High Tech Landscapes, Inc.

Patrick J. DuChene attended The Ohio State University where he majored in Landscape Architecture and took several horticulture classes to increase his plant knowledge. Patrick acted as the only undergraduate Teacher’s Assistant in the Landscape Horticulture department, where he assisted a licensed landscape architect in the teaching of landscape design. Patrick started his own lawn business in 1988 and he has worked for several large landscape companies in Ohio. His jobs have included running maintenance crews, performing site consultations with customers, designing and installing landscape projects, and assisting in the development of programs for companies to keep up with today’s technologies in computer aided drafting. Patrick became a member of the National Concrete and Masonry Association in 2007 as a Certified Retaining Wall Installer. In his current role, Patrick provides consultation, design and installation services to his existing client base and potential clients. Patrick’s extensive plant knowledge, design experience and passion for customer service enable him to provide a superior service and representation of his industry to his clients. Patrick lives in Bedminster, NJ with his wife Julie and is expecting a baby any day now. When not working, Patrick enjoys spending time with his extended family, playing golf and reading magazines to keep up with the latest trends in landscape design.

Paul M. Smith
Director of Landscape & Horticulture
Duke Farms Foundation

Following a five year term as Operations Director Mr. Smith now serves as the Director of Landscape & Horticulture at Duke Farms (DFF), a 2,700 acre estate of the late Doris Duke. Prior to his tenure at DFF, Paul was a managing partner serving the Corporate Industry in the Princeton/New Brunswick area overseeing major clients such as J&J, Lenox China, Ahriest Labs, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to name a few.
Paul also owns and operates P’ In E’ Landscape Planning & Design, a Landscape Designing Company serving Central and North Jersey.

Majoring in Land Planning/Environmental Sciences, Paul graduated from Cook College, Rutgers University, with highest honors (Su Cumme Laude). Paul has received an Environmental Management Masters Certificate from the University of Maryland. Paul holds numerous Landscape Architecture Certificates from both Mercer and Rutgers Colleges. He also earned his Certified Property Management (CPM) designation with the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM).

Paul is the Treasurer of the Somerset County Board of Agriculture’s Executive Board. He’s the Secretary of the IREM Executive Board and sits on the Somerset County Vocational Technical High School Foundation Advisory Board. Paul is active with the local Boy Scouts as an active committee person heading up fund raising. He’s also the past Recruitment Coordinator and member in good standing with the local Chapter of “The Man-Kind Project”, a non-profit organization working to build integrity and community in men. Paul is one of the founding members of the Garden State Gardens consortium and an active member of the APLD-NJ Chapter (Ass. of Professional Landscape Designers).
